About LAUREL:
Searching
for their toddler and her Cherokee aunt kidnapped by slavers, Lilyan and
Nicholas Xanthakos trek from their North Carolina vineyard, through South
Carolina backcountry to Charleston, a tinderbox of post-Revolutionary War
passions. There Lilyan, a former Patriot spy, faces a grand jury on charges of
murdering a British officer. Once free, they follow Laurel’s trail by sea and
are shipwrecked on Ocracoke Island. Will they be reunited with their dear child
or is Laurel lost to them forever?
Full back cover copy:
Desperate
to rescue their kidnapped daughter, Lilyan and Nicholas Xanthakos trek two
hundred miles through South Carolina mountains and backcountry wilderness,
fighting outlaws, hunger, sleeplessness, and despair. When the trail grows
cold, the couple battles guilt and personal shame; Lilyan for letting Laurel
out of her sight, and Nicholas for failing to keep his family safe.
They
track Laurel to the port of Charleston as post-Revolutionary War passions reach
fever pitch. There, Lilyan, a
former patriot spy, is charged for the murder of a British officer. She is
thrown into the Exchange Building dungeon and chained alongside prostitutes,
thieves, and murderers. Separated from her husband, she digs deep inside to
re-ignite the courage and faith that helped her survive the war. Determined to free his wife at any
cost, Nicholas finds himself forced back into a life of violence he thought he’d
left behind.
Following
a rumor that Laurel may be aboard a freighter bound for Baltimore, Lilyan and
Nicholas secure passage on a departing schooner, but two days into the voyage,
a storm blows their ship aground on Diamond Shoals. As the ship founders, both
are swept overboard.
Will
their love for each other and their faith sustain them as they await word of
their missing child? Or is Laurel lost to them forever?

It sounds like an excellent story - and I just got my copy in the mail moments ago! I am eager to curl up with this story tonight.
ReplyDeleteWow, Delores, that's fast! You must have pre-ordered :) Happy reading. And thanks for visiting.
DeleteDelores, I'm so glad you said you received the book. I was wondering how that worked with preorders and wanted everything to go smoothly. I do hope you enjoy Laurel.
DeleteI'm looking forward to a fabulous read. An emotional one too no doubt.

Mary, so sorry about the delay in posting my comment to you. Ran into a wee bit of frustration on my own blog when Blogger wouldn't let me reply last evening to your comment--LOL/grumble. However, I am thankful for your visit--always am!
Deleteaunt kidnapped by slavers, that period is so interesting to me, I'd love to read this... dkstevensneAToutlookDotCOm
ReplyDeleteHi, Deanna. On a cold January day Susan's novel would be an excellent one to curl up with. You're in the drawing!
DeleteThanks, Mary. Emotional ... I cried several times when I was writing it, and my husband came into the room to see if I was okay. When he realized I was writing, he patted my shoulder and said, "It's all right, Sweetie. They aren't real." What?
ReplyDeleteSusan, you made me commiseratively smile. Husbands of writers--they get us but don't :)
DeleteSusan, your new book sounds great! And I love that you helped put a book together for those writing about horses. I grew up with horses, but I definitely don't know everything there is to know. It sounds like a great resource!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to both you and Elaine!
As always, Kathy, so glad you visited. Susan definitely has a lot going for her!
DeleteKathy, if you get the chance, go to the international Long Riders' Guild website. Fascinating stuff about all things horses. Their Academic Foundation has books about horses going back to the Crusades. They publish travel books written by Long Riders who've had adventures traveling on horseback all over the world.
DeleteI lived in Holden Beach NC for over 15 years and we went to Ocracoke Island and saw the lighthouse. I would love to read and review your book. Thanks! Rhonda nashhall@aol.com
ReplyDeleteHi, Rhonda! Sounds like Susan's LAUREL is a perfect read for you.

Congratulations, Rhonda, on your new grandchild :) Blessings.
DeleteRhonda - you won, huzzah! Will get it to you with hopes that you enjoy it. :-)
DeleteSusan, thanks so much for this special appearance on Everyone's Story. I hope this novel sells really well, and judging by comments left for you, I'm not the only one :) Also hope this is the beginning of something great for you with this new publisher.
ReplyDeleteThanks too for your BookGiveaway. The winner is…
Rhonda. Happy reading, Rhonda!! Both Susan and I will email you directly.
Blessings to all.
